About DORS

Outcomes at a Glance

Fiscal Year 2009 (Ending 9/30/09)

In the past 12 months, DORS has touched the lives of thousands of Maryland citizens with disabilities:

2,311 people became successfully employed after taking part in public vocational rehabilitation (VR) services.

The Disability Determination Services (DDS) cleared 63,103 disability claims. The DDS adjudicates these claims for people in Maryland who file for Social Security disability benefits. This is a 7.4% increase in clearances from FY 2008.

At year's end, DORS was serving 5,492 young adults who were transitioning from high school to post-secondary education and careers. These young adults now comprise 34% of DORS open caseload.

The Workforce & Technology Center served 2,586 persons, a 5% increase over the previous year. WTC worked with the Office for Blindness & Vision Services to help 570 consumers toward employment.
