In Maryland
• The average cost per person rehabilitated in Maryland is $4,077.39.
• These individuals will be able to pay back the cost of their rehabilitation services, through taxes and reduced reliance on public benefits, in just 2 to 4 years.
• People who went to work after taking part in DORS programs contributed over $46 million to the state’s economy in their first year working.
National
• The individuals who completed their VR service plans last year and went to work will earn approximately $3.5 billion in wages during their first year of work. During that year, these new wage earners will pay approximately $320 million in Federal taxes; $95 million in State income taxes; and $520 million in Social Security and Medicare taxes (self and employer). • Those individuals who had been receiving Social Security disability benefits and who are now working will save the Federal treasury and the Social Security Trust fund over $470 million.
