High School Students

IEPs and IPEs

A male and a female student sit at a table.

Students who have participated in special education programs are familiar with Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs). These plans address services to be provided to the student during one school year. As students move into high school,  a statement of transition services needed by the student must be included in the IEP.

Once a student is eligible for DORS vocational services (and can be served based on the significance of the disability), the student will complete an Individualized Plan for Employment (IPE). The rehabilitation specialist, the family or school personnel may assist. The IPE is developed in consideration of the goals and objectives of the student's IEP.

The IPE lists:

The IPE also describes the responsibilities of both the individual and DORS.  The IPE must be approved by DORS before services can begin. The IPE will be reviewed (and can be updated) each year unless a more frequent review is needed.
