High School Students

DORS helps high school students with disabilities decide on a job goal and locate the programs and services needed to reach that goal. 

• Career decision-making, counseling and referral—DORS rehabilitation counselors help students explore job options and find the training or education they need to get those jobs. 
  
  
• Assistive technology—If needed, DORS coordinates the assistive technology services needed for people with disabilities who need them. Assistive technologies are services and equipment that help people to do things that would otherwise be difficult or impossible. Examples are adapted computers, listening devices or mobility aids. 
  
  
• Vocational training—Depending on your job goal, DORS can connect you with job training programs, on-the-job-training, internships and other experiences that help you build skills. There are also training prgorams that helps students adjust to working.
  
  Using financial guidelines, DORS may help pay for books, tools, materials, college or technical training.
  
  
• Independent living skills training—Some programs teach the basics of household and community living.
  
  
• Job search, placement and job-keeping services—DORS rehabilitation specialists help develop job-seeking skills. They may also refer you to other agencies that provide these services.
  
  Once you are working, DORS provides follow-up for at least 90 days after the job begins. 
  
  
• Supported employment/job coaching—DORS may provide funding for job coaching services. Job coaches teach work skills and behaviors, often at the worksite.
  
  
• Medical rehabilitation services—DORS may supply certain medical services such as short-term counseling, visual aids and prosthetics.
  
  
• Support services—Assistance may also be available for transportation, maintenance and personal assistance services.
