The Baltimore Auto Supply Company recently hired two graduates from the Warehouse Training Program at DORS Workforce & Technology Center (WTC). Since the company specializes in supplying military and government agencies with parts for fleet vehicles, owner Herman Berlin is looking for workers who are ready to work in a fast-paced environment. Mr. Berlin said that both new workers came to the interview with a good grasp of the job requirements, including a forklift certification. He added that WTC job placement staff visited his facility in advance to learn more about his business and the job requirements. Mr. Berlin also took advantage of the Maryland Disability Employment Tax Credit.
The six-week warehouse training course develops skills in warehouse paperwork processes and computer software, safe materials handling, inventory procedures and forklift operation. Weekly field trips and a one-week internship reinforce job-ready skills. See curriculum.
The program is a partnership between WTC and the Community Colleges of Baltimore County (Essex).
