Office Technology – Customer Service

Career Information
Representatives confer with customers by telephone or in person in order to provide information about products and services, to take orders or cancel accounts, or to obtain details of complaints.  Positions may involve the use of computers, cash registers or other technology and may include job titles such as Customer Service Representative, Retail Salesperson, Teller, Clerk and Agent.

Length of Course
This six-week course includes classroom instruction in customer service training, basic computer skills training, Microsoft Word, basic keyboarding, basic writing and math components and is followed by Job Seeking Skills Training and internship experience/job placement services.

Admission Qualifications
This program is available as a stand-alone service for consumers whose employment goal is customer service.  A high school diploma or GED is not required; the recommended reading level is 6th grade or higher.

Employment Outlook
Customer Service Representatives are in demand, with a projected growth of 21% or higher between now and 2016.  The average starting wage in Maryland is $9.17 per hour.
