Career InformationAutomotive mechanics diagnose and repair motor vehicles,and perform tire service and lubrication. Length of CourseThis 40-week course includes videos, lectures and guided classroom discussion with extensive hands-on experience.
Admission QualificationsA copy of the consumer's driving record must be provided prior to admission to the program. If the individual has more than two points on his/her driving record, admission may only be granted upon special review by the Center administration. That review would include examining the type of violation(s), date of violation(s), and when the points would be removed from the individual's driving record.
The consumer must possess physical abilities consistent with constant bending and strenuous exertion; mechanical aptitude; good communication skills; hand dexterity; mobility; and the ability to lift 50 pounds. Individuals interested in automotive training who report criminal conviction(s) will be required to secure a criminal background check. A minimum sixth grade reading level is required and the attainment of a General Education Development (GED) Diploma is strongly recommended by graduation for students who do not have a High School Diploma.
Employment OutlookEntry level automotive mechanics typically start as helpers or apprentices.
