Academic Instruction/Support is individualized and self-paced. WTC's instructors help program participants to master the reading and mathematics required in their vocational training programs. DORS consumers not attending WTC programs may also take part in academic instruction prior to job training, job searching or to prepare for post-secondary education.
General Education Development (GED) preparation can be provided if a high school diploma is needed in a vocational training program or to reach a specific job goal. The instructors provide specialized instruction and adaptive techniques for individuals with hearing, visual and learning disabilities. The academic instructors are skilled in determining if accommodations will be needed for the formal GED test setting and will request approvals from the GED office as needed.
GED Group Training is offered twice a year to dorm and day commuting consumers in 12-week intervals Test scores from the Official GED Practice Tests must indicate potential to be successful in a GED instructional program.
Pathways Program provides academic support to students with autism spectrum disorders who are 1) DORS consumers 2) have an Individualized Plan for Employment that supports college as part of a vocational plan and 3) are registered with the Disability Support Services at one of the Community Colleges of Baltimore. Advisors in the Pathways Program help develop academic, social, independent living and career exploration/development skills.
