Edward M. Spath, Jr. Award Winner, Patricia Flint

The Edward M. Spath, Jr. Award is given to a Workforce & Technology Center (WTC) student who receives academic assistance and achieves academic success.

Edward M. Spath, Jr. Family Members join Award Winner, Patricia Flint(center), and Jane Englar (right front) WTC Pre-Vocational Academics Instructor

Patricia Flint was chosen as this year's Spath winner because she surmounted obstacles and showed fortitude, determination, and perseverance in studying for her high school diploma and taking the Official GED Tests.

Patricia is legally blind and has a severe hearing impairment. She has to struggle to see material on a video magnifier which presents a challenge when trying to read charts, graphs, and pictorial information. Patricia also struggles to hear verbal information. It is a daunting task to learn new material when one has been out of school for many years, and it is even more difficult when one is unable to clearly see or hear the information.

Patricia also faced transportation problems and had to wait long hours for her transportation to arrive to take her home. She continued to persevere, show up every day for classes, study for, and complete her GED Tests.

Pricia Flint is an individual who demonstrated the ability to succeed academically while facing formidable challenges. We congratulate her on recently passing her GED Tests and we know she is on her way to accomplishing more great things in her life.

Congratulations, Patricia!

Patricia Flint and Jan Englar with Patricia's daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, and three granddaughters.

Several Members of Patricia's Family Came to the Award Ceremony to Help her Celebrate !
