DDS Training & Staff Development

DDS is a diverse workplace.  Employees provide a valuable public service through community partnerships, team work, independent decision making, computer skills and knowledge of the medical/legal requirements of SSA regulations.  The work is both challenging and rewarding.

We work closely with the medical and school community as well as SSA field offices and hearing offices.  To foster those relationships, we participate in many liaison networks and educational outreach activities.  Program information is also provided to advocacy groups and the community at large.

Location

The DDS is located in a fully accessible office complex in Timonium, Maryland.  Designed for security, public access and efficiency in claims adjudication, the facility makes use of an IWS/LAN environment that links  to the Social Security Administration (SSA) and to our parent agency, DORS.  It is equipped with state of the art video and teleconferencing equipment and enhanced security and telephone systems.  The DDS is within a few steps of public transportation.

Benefits

As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the DDS has a strong commitment to the continuing education of its employees.  We provide various opportunities for professional development as well as tuition reimbursement for continuing education.

As an employee of the DDS, you are automatically enrolled in the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System.  This comprehensive program offers you vesting in five years, benefits based on a combination of years in service and average salary, and health benefits for both you and your family.

The State of Maryland provides three tax-deferred options for you to save additional money for retirement.  These plans offer you numerous investment options with some of the most respected financial institutions in the country.  All of your contributions are made before state and federal taxes are withheld.
