A DDS team comprised of a physician and/or psychologist and trained disability examiner makes a recommendation to Social Security about your eligibility for disability benefits. Medical evidence from doctors, hospitals and clinics will be used to make this determination.
In addition to the medical evidence, age, education, and past work experience may also be considered in the disability decision. In children’s cases, schools, teachers, case managers, and other sources will be contacted for evidence that will be considered along with the medical evidence.
Social Security’s rules for determining disability differ from those of other programs. Another agency’s decision and medical reports may be used as supplemental information in determining disability under Social Security rules.
