Siau Kiong (left) started as a dishwasher at the Bethesda Marriott Suites and was quickly promoted to food preparation.
Vikas Lalwani (right), Director of Restaurant Operations, frequently worked alongside Mr. Kiong until Mr. Lalwani was recently promoted. When they worked together, says Mr. Lalwani, "Siou and I got things to the table at the same time. He's a great worker—we just have to give people a chance."
A recent new dad, Mr. Kiong supports his family and hopes to work his way into positions of increased responsibility.
Though English is not his first language, Mr. Kiong is proficient in sign language. He reads lips and follows demonstrated instructions with little problem.
